Crafty Pagans - Beware of This Company!

Posted in

As many of my readers know, I do, on occasion, write up a post that I am paid for. Whether it be to review a website or product or just to help an advertiser get themselves seen, I have no problem doing this. I try and choose topics that are relevant to my blog and I also try to make the post interesting to my readers. It also helps that this helps me pay some bills - I consider paid blogging a 'part time job'

That being said, back in September I did a post for a beading company, Beads of Cambay - you can see that post here: Click to View
I have altered the post to take out the links because honestly, this company deserves nothing from me. I had to wait 30 days from the date this post went live in order to receive payment and fulfill my end of the deal per the paid blogging company's TOS - now that it has been over 30 days, all bets are off!

Here's what happened. I was banned from ever doing anything for this beading company because their post is on my blog, a Pagan blog. Now, no, I'd never do anything for them anyway but this bench leaves a black mark on my profile and other advertisers may choose NOT to work with me because of this. They don't get to see the reason for the ban so all they know is I've been banned by an advertiser and that just is not good.

This beading company chose these categories for their advertising, meaning any blog that fit these categories was eligible to take the opportunity. Hmmm, 'alternative lifestyle' mixed with 'religion and spirituality' I'd have to say this blog fits perfectly.

Here is the reason for the ban - yep, they don't like their client's to be advertised on a Pagan Community website. Now, this may very well mean the ad agency made this decision and not the bead company. That bead company may have hired someone to help with their ad campaign and paid blogging was one of the campaigns chosen.

Either way, I told the paid blogging site what I thought and how my blog clearly fit the categories chosen AND hey, there are lots of crafty Pagans and this company could have potentially gotten some sales but I would make sure that didn't happen.

Here is the reason I got from the paid blogging site:
Hello Lisa,

I have reached out to the advertiser and advised that they should not use discriminatory practices in our system but they have still decided to keep the ban. I do apologize for this. They have been made aware that they may have now lost customers because of this.

Unfortunately, we cannot remove the ban without their consent.

Please keep up the good work and I hope that this never happens again!

Okay, fair enough but that doesn't mean I am okay with this. So, if you're a crafty Pagan, don't get your beads from the Beads of Cambay company - they clearly don't want your money. You Heathens!

Thanks for letting us know. I do some paid writing on a different blog (not my pagan blog) for exactly this reason. I told myself that I was being paranoid, I am sorry to hear that I have a reason to be paranoid.
I have read some of your posts about certain products and I think they are well written and I have almost always gone to the company site to check them out. Hopefully this will be the only company of asshats that you deal with.

Hey Celestite,
Thank you for the positive feedback. I really don't want to clutter this blog with paid posts, but some really fit here and heck, I thought that was one of them!

That's INSANITY! I can't believe they are actually discriminating against a person who clearly fits into their ideal customer profile.

BAH!

We should organize an email campaign against them, explaining we would have happily bought their products, but since they don't want the PAGAN COMMUNITY to be their customers, then we aren't.

Yes, clearly these people have their heads shoved up their asses. If you are a business you really shouldn't limit your customer base!

That's so ridiculous! I'm glad there are many more beads companies, because this one is on my black list. Grrrrrrrr.....!!!
Thanks for posting this.

oh I forgot to mention.
I had bookmarked this company, I didn't delete the company, I put a comment that they do not want Pagan customers, so if I open that page accidentally I will see the comment.
I also had passed the site on to a friend of mine....I undid that, she will pass the word also.

What a pack of idiots.

Celestite,

I wonder if this company is the culprit or the company they got to do their advertising? Maybe I should email the actual company and tell them what happened, they might not even know.
Either way, it's clear to me that if they don't want the site advertised on a 'Pagan Community Website' then I figure they surely wouldn't want to sell to us Pagans.

Hi.
What a story. Unfortunatly there´s too many preconceptions in this world.
You do a great job in your reviews, the ban was not fair. Cheer up, lots other opportunities will come your way.
All the best. Cheers.

Saintbella

I 'm a former Southern Baptist who went to a Catholic School. ( If that wouldn't confuse the heck out of someone ) Then marrying and divorcing an Agnostic who was raised by a Methodist mother and a Atheist father. ( Is your head spinning )
Then married a non denomiation and raising our 3 little ones Baptist. ( I just can't subject them to being different than the masses )
MY POINT :
I have learned that by far the Pagans have made me feel closer to Heaven and Earth than at any other point in my life. Am I a pagan, maybe not, I'm perching on the fence. But I will not stand for intolerance from PEOPLE ( which is what it boils down too ) and I will help with the boycott.
Prayers and Blessings

I was raised Catholic, even went to Catholic school for a few years. My significant other was raised Baptist - in fact, his grandfather was a preacher.

It saddens me that there are still so many closed minded people when it comes to religion and spirituality.
