Halloween Church Events?

Posted in

Maybe I am just a cynical Bitch, but I was quite disturbed when my kids came home from PUBLIC school with a postcard invitation from "Crossover Church" sponsoring "Trunk or Treat" - YES...TRUNK or Treat...see for yourself:

So a very conservative church (who isn't even around here - at least I have never heard of them and when doing a Google search, found nothing about them here in PA) is hosting a gathering for children for Halloween - a holiday that is very against their beliefs...to make things safe for these kids - so, come get candy out of the trunk of a car!! LMAO - sorry, that just sounds soooo wrong.

I wonder if they will be proselytizing...

I think "trunk or treat" is the big thing this year. There is one in my area, not church sponsored, and I totally got a creepy vibe off the concept.

I don't see any problem with it, really. I think it's a good thing - at least the kids get to celebrate it, even if all they're getting is a costume and candy.

It's to keep kids safe and I've had many a disagreement with other Pagans and Heathens over whether kids should be able to celebrate these things as they've been warped by time, religion and even secularism into bastardized holidays that no longer really have meaning like they should.

I'm actually helping out at a trunk or treat being held by the local library - I've always been very vocal against making children pay the price when it comes to religious arguments. Most people don't seem to see a problem with that, for some reason, but I'd rather the kids get their candy and get to dress up and have a good time even if they're celebrating the holiday in the 'wrong' way or the people holding the celebration are the 'wrong' people.

althara,

I just find it weird - especially since it is sponsored by a church.

Nancy,

You completely missed my point - you have referred to Halloween as though it's just some fun day when kids get candy. Halloween is just as spiritual to us "Heathens" as Christmas is to Christians.

So, why are Christians celebrating a Pagan holiday? It's flat out stupid because Halloween goes completely against the church's beliefs but shows just how much the "church" is a business looking for new recruits.

Here in SC Trunk or Treat is HUGE!Most of the churches around here have a trunk or treat or fall festival. If you do trick or treat around here you have to drive because only 1 in every 10 houses give candy....sad what its come too...
