Getting Crafty

Posted in ,

I want to join the 'crafty people' (is that like the 'beautiful people'? lol) but I am ohhh so NOT talented! I am a Libra - I'm so supposed to have a love for the arts, right? Well, I guess I have a love for them, just not the skill!

A while back I posted about how Olivia made me a necklace for Mother's Day - it is beautiful, of course I still have it!

She has been asking me to make jewelry with her lately. Jeff used to do this stuff with her, but he's been busy and so I guess it's my turn. I found a great site about cleaning jewelry and all sorts of jewelry ideas, and of course DIY jewelry tutorials!

Do you make jewelry? Let's network!

Fixated on Faeries

Posted in , ,

My eldest Witchlet, Olivia, is fixated on faeries. At her dad's, she has faerie doors by trees outside and doorways inside. Now she wants a faerie mailbox so she can send and receive letters to them. She wants one in her room and one outside.

I think having a few faerie mailboxes is a cute idea. I know she wants to do this now so I am trying to come up with some cool Mabon and Samhain decoration ideas for them.

I think having a mailbox for each season or Sabbat is a neat idea! We'd sure have a lot of faerie mail boxes but it's the idea behind this whole thing that I love!

My Mother's Day Gift

Posted in , ,

All this talk of crafty Pagans made me realize I never posted pictures of the necklace my daughter made me for Mother's Day! My ex-husband, Jeff (her father) helped her make this necklace but they didn't have a chain or chord to put the charm on. I guess that's why I forgot to mention it, as I was unable to wear it.

She finally remembered to remind Jeff about this so I now have a chord for it and I LOVE wearing it!

Apple Candleholders

Posted in , ,

Apple candleholders are perfect for Lammas, Mabon and even Samhain. They are a wonderful way to decorate your altar for the Sabbats. They are very easy to make. I have made these on several occasions with Olivia and she has always had fun helping so this is definitely a good activity for a child.

You need: apples, some lemon juice and candles. You can use votive candles or tapered but if you use tapered, make sure they are not too tall. I usually go with 2-4"

What to do:

  • Rinse and dry apples
  • Stand the apple up on its bottom, and use a knife or a corer to make a hole in the top where the stem is located - go about half way down and make sure to widen the hold so it's the same width as your candle
  • Pour some lemon juice into the hole and allow it to sit for ten minutes - the lemon juice can help prevent the apple from browning and softening too quickly
  • After 10 minutes, pour out the lemon juice, dry out the hole, and insert a sprig of fresh herb - I've used rosemary and basil
  • Add the candle. You can drip some wax inside the apple before inserting the candle to make sure the candle stays secure

Mabon Wreath

Posted in ,

I made a lovely wreath for Mabon this year. What do you think? I LOVE the autumn months!!! This wreath was very simple to make. I got all the things I needed at a craft store. I didn't use anything live because I think I'm going to keep this up year round - somewhere in my house!

I tend to forget to pack things away a lot of the time. Hey, at least I have a festive home year round!

If you want to make a Mabon wreath, here's what you will need:

* Acorns
* Pomegranates
* Pine Cones
* Autumn colored leaves
* Apples
* Ivy
* Cornucopias - Horn of Plenty
* Grapes

Like I mentioned, some of these things can be real or you can buy silk flowers and such at your local craft store. Use your imagination and remember to have fun!

Litha Activities

Posted in , ,

Here are some fun things you can do to celebrate Litha:

  • Tie a sprig of Rowan, a sprig of Rue, and three flowers of St. John's Wort with red thread and hang over the door.
  • Make amulets of protection out of herbs such as Rue and Rowan. If you make new amulets each year you can dispose of the old in the midsummer fire.
  • Create a pouch for psychic dreams (Mugwort and Bay Leaves in a cloth of Lavender, blue, or yellow and sewn with red thread) and place under your pillow.
  • Soak Thyme in olive oil, then lightly anoint your eyelids to see Faery folk at night.
Just a few suggestions. I'm sure I'll have more this month!
