I love the kittens we got from my good friend, Jenn. They are 8 months old already but will always be "kittens" to me. Here is Thunder, he is such a handsome boy, don't you think?
I wish we had an enclosed porch, complete with patio furniture, not just for us but for the kitties to lounge around on. One day we will have enough money to do all the things I want to do to this house. One day...
I was in the kitchen last night listening to Dante ramble on about his coin collection (he was trying to convince me to buy gold coins for him, LOL) when I felt this 'stare' behind me. I turned around and saw this:
That is Lightning, one of the 'kittens' we got back in August. He is generally quiet and even a bit skittish, just his nature, nothing bad happened to him, but last night he looked like a wise old cat, LOL
Once I started talking to him, his demeanor changed and then I saw that shy sweet lil kitteh that he usually always is:
I have 2 new additions to my furry family; Thunder and Lightning. These little guys are brothers, born in June. My friend's cat had kittens and that is how I acquired them.
Lightning is a bit thinner and has a tiny patch of white on his neck. Thunder is all black, although I have seen a few white hairs here and there. For some reason, they love to sleep in the bathroom sink!
I am easily distracted--I was writing a health article on a topic regarding the best way to lose weight when I suddenly found myself of Facebook, lol. I do this a lot, which is why it takes me forever to write articles!
Anyway, I this article was shared on Facebook by a friend of mine and I just had to post it here as well. This dog was used as a 'bait dog' for dog fighting; he even had his ear REMOVED--not cropped, REMOVED :-[
" Phoenix rubbed his earless, scarred head against Tiffany Norton's hand, pushing for a pat.
The emaciated German shepherd-mix had just come out of a bath on Tuesday to soothe his infected, flea-covered body. The dog was rescued on Monday by Coastal German Shepherd Rescue from a shelter in Downey – hours before he was scheduled to be euthanized – and brought to Alicia Pet Care Center."
I got up in the middle of the night to find Boots and Gary on the bed sleeping peacefully together. Normally these two sleep on the bed at my feet or CJ's feet - depends on who they feel like cuddling up to. On this particular night they were between us.
Olivia and I took Miss. Puss back to Gloria yesterday. Seems every Saturday at our local Pet Smart there are adoptions going on. Taking her back was tough, she went in the cage 'Boots' was in and he went in the carrier. Seeing her huddled in the corner of a cage was heartbreaking.
While I was filling out paperwork for Boots, an older couple came over to me and asked me questions about Miss. Puss - they saw me bring her in. I told them all the wonderful things about her and did add she needs to be the only cat. Their cat had recently died and they had no other pets! They seemed really interested in her and asked to hold her. I really hope they took her home!
So now we have Boots:
I hate the name but that is the name he was given at the shelter and the Witchlets love the name. I was thinking Figaro, like in Pinocchio:
Boots is a 7 month old neutered male and he and Gary get along famously. There has been no hiding by either cat, no hissing, growling, bullying or marking territory. The downside? Boots was either on my head or on my face all.night.long. and if it wasn't me, it was CJ he smothered.
The Witchlets call Gary 'Gary the Snail' (SpongeBob) and now they call Boots 'Boots the Monkey' (Dora)
Last month CJ and I adopted 2 kitties and well, here's the update. It's not going so well. Gary has adjusted wonderfully. He loves the kids, ventures all around the house and doesn't even mind Angus much. I can't say the same for Miss. Puss, she has not adjusted well at all.
She hides under my bed, day and night. The problem? Gary. They don't like each other and he has no fear of her. In fact, he sometimes instigates. There are times at night when CJ and I go to bed she will come out and lay by us but then Gary jumps up on the bed and she immediately goes to hide. They fight often. Even in the middle of the night, I hear her growling from under the bed because Gary is in the room. AND, somekitty is peeing on our bed, on CJ's side. 3 times since we got them this has happened. My guess is it's her, asserting her territory.
I called Gloria, the woman who was fostering her for the shelter. We talked for a while and she feels it's best I return Miss. Puss to her so she can find a more suitable home :[
CJ and I talked about setting up a litter box and putting food and water in the basement - it's a finished basement. Then she and Gary would be separated but the kids are down there a lot and she hides from them too.
She hates the dog, she's not a fan of the kids, she detests Gary and the only time I see her is at night. BUT - she is such a sweet cat - and she is beautiful!
Gloria said boy kitties are much more aloof and easy going. She told me to bring Miss. Puss back and take 'Boots' an 8 month old black and white male. I am so torn. My goal was to give 2 kitties a home, not one a home and the other stress. Miss. Puss is obviously not happy here. I think she needs to be in a home where she is the only animal.
I don't want to return her but I think that is the best bet. At least she would be going to a home and not a shelter, even if it is only a foster home.
I am so sad :[
Today CJ and I picked up Josh's ashes. I got a beautiful box and a very nice card from Cloud Nine Pet Services
Since CJ and I were out and about we remembered that the local Pet Smart had an adoption weekend this weekend so we went to check it out. We spent a lot of time with two local animal shelters that were at Pet Smart; Feline Finish Line and Peaceable Kingdom and well, we found 2 older kitties to give a forever home to.
Feline Finish Line had mostly kittens and I really loved two tuxedo kitties they had but CJ didn't want kittens, he wanted an older cat, which was fine but I was thinking, even though I'd love to give an old cat a home, with the 2 boys in the house, I was afraid it would do more harm than good. We agreed on adult cats and got 2 from Peaceable Kingdom.
CJ fell in love with 'Cashmere' a 2 1/2 year old female who was dropped off at the shelter in December 2008 to be spayed, the owners never came back for her and of course, never paid for the spay. She is shy and a bit skittish but I believe she will be just fine.
I noticed 'Jason' right away. Olivia had said she would really love an orange kitty so when I saw this guy I knew he was the one. He is an adult male. He is extremely lovable and sweet.
CJ renamed Cashmere "Muff" and affectionately calls her ~Puss Face~ and we agreed to rename Jason "Gary" since we all love SpongeBob and of course, Gary is the name of SpongeBob's pet snail and he meows like a cat, LOL
My favorite 'Gary' episode: Gary Takes a Bath:
How cool is this dog collar? I would love to get it for Angus - it's perfect for a Witch's dog, hahaha
I was just surfing the 'net when I cam across the site Karma Charms and thought this was pretty neat!
I'm just as much of an animal lover now that I have children as I was before I had them - the only difference is that back then I had more time to devote to my animals. I used to have 2 dogs and 5 cats. Now, I have 1 dog and 1 cat - plus a few fish and a hamster. I miss my first dog, Odhinn, and I wish I could have him back. I would at least like to know how he's doing - here's what happened with him
I have Angus now and I love him but he's certainly no Odhinn. Last week we got a puppy and that lasted about an hour. (you can read about that fiasco here) I'm not sure what is going on with me right now - why I am still obsessing over Odhinn. I mean, to the point where I wanted another dog. I know no dog will ever replace him.
I need to get out of this funk! What the heck! I thought I got rid of all the ickies on New Moon! Since I was feeling like this I decided to do something good - this morning I made a donation for Sammy and I just went back to the website this afternoon and saw that they have met their goal money wise! yay!
A good friend and fellow blogger posted about this on her blog and I just had to put the video here and share.
What a heart warming reunion. It made my eyes well up with tears. I was just amazed when I watched this. Animals are so incredibly unique and beautiful.
I cannot believe this news! It was just on a local station around here. A poor dog was actually sucked right off his leash by a street sweeping machine and killed! The street sweeper was operated by a guy wearing headphones and driving too fast.
How tragic. That poor dog. Read Article
Zyon just showed me this picture:
No, I'm not offended. I think it's so damn cute and really funny! These sites crack me up. I am wondering how the heck they got those dogs to not only sit there so cute but how did they get them to wear those outfits?! Angus would never, ever let us dress him up! He tolerates a lot but thta is something I don't think he'd go for. LOL
<--- This is Angus. He is a Boxer. He is our dog. He drives us batty. Last time we went away for a few days he refused to eat for a majority of that time.
I feel bad for him and I wish he wasn't like that. I can't imagine WHY he misses us so much. he is usually in trouble so he gets yelled at a lot. The kids torment play rough with him all the time, yet he actually misses us when we go away.
He isn't alone either when we're not here. My mom lives right next door to us so she watches him and spends a great deal of time with him.
Since my mom is going with us on our Walt Disney World vacation, her boyfriend, Frank, will be staying at her house to care for her dog and to care for Angus.
I hope things go better this time.
Okay, I already made one post about *Simon's Cat* and I thought the video was hilarious!
However, this next one was brought to my attention this evenong and now I can't decide which one is funnier, LOL.
